I'll let others handle the technical aspects, but there's something else to consider... Check with your city or county's zoning department to be sure that what you want to do is even allowed. If you're just a hobbyist, it's probably OK, but if you plan to make money on your films (not porn films, I hope? lol), then you may have to get permits for a home occupation.

if your for real start by asking movie makers in yahoo answers, we are photographers - still pictures not moving
that said you have got a little lucky, i am also a professional TV Camera Operator, dont do it much now as I make enough doing other things.
a bed room wont be big enough! you need maybe 3 2000w (blonde) lights and maybe 3 800w (redhead) lights, put them in the corners, a camera operator, director, DOP, Assistant Director, Sound Recordist/Engineer,Camera, Dolly, Tripod, Monitor, Talent - are you crazy what are you all going to sit on each other?
as far as studio goes they tend to be at least three times the size of what you see on TV!
Ive convinced myself you are joking so thats it bye

So I know, huge question, let me layout more details. I will need one bedroom for sleeping, the kitchen and bathroom are off limits. I was thinking about turning one bedroom in to a flexible set and the other smaller bedroom in to an editing room.
For the set room what kind of lights, camera, tripod, back drops etc. should I be looking at?
For the editing room what kind of computer, software, other Hardware would I need? What about monitors and other peripherals should I look at getting?
What about other rooms (basement, living room, dining room, backyard, etc.) Any ideas how I could use them?
