You do have to go into the military if you go to the USNA. That's part of the deal - the tuition, books, uniforms, housing and food are all free there, but in exchange, you agree to go into the military for 4+ years afterwards. You do enter as an officer, though, which is a plus. And the USNA is extremely prestigious.
U florida is somewhat less prestigious, but it's still a good school, and it's one of the best in Florida. |

USNS, no doubt
Smaller class sizes, more resources spent on student a top ranked school Nationally, great tradition and you will be exposed to more experiences that will help you in your career in the long run.
Now if you are looking to get drunk like a high school student 4 days a week and pass out during one of the Gator games in the stands since it cost $5 for a bottle of water and UF disables the water fountains during the games and won't let you leave and reenter the stadium during half time then UF is for you.
If you are looking at class sizes of 300 or more, a student to faculty ratio that is one of the worst in the Nation and a student to advisor ratio of 2000 to 1, then UF is for you.
If you are looking for an institution that doesn't value academics and will cut several academic graduate and undergraduate programs and classes before they even considering cutting recreational scuba classes, then UF is for you.
Go to the Naval Academy, you will not regret it. |

UF is one of the best schools in Florida. I'm applying there this summer and hoping I get accepted! I'll be a senior this year... Hence the application.
USNA (I have two friends who got accepted this year) requires the graduates to spend a minimum of five years serving. The tuition, books, room and board, etc. is given for free as part of the deal.
I can honestly say I respect, greatly, my two friends entering and everyone else at the USNA (and, of course, serving in general). Your best bet is to check out their website. I know another one of my friends, who is joining the army, needed a letter from a senator or the President as a part of his application. Navy might be different on this front.
You get a great education either way, only one requires you to serve five years whereas the other simply hopes you attend its graduate school. |
